In 2020, Standing on Giants became a certified B Corp, demonstrating our commitment to people and planet, not just profit. Over the years, the alignment between our B Corp status and our community management work has become ever clearer. As the internet becomes increasingly reliant on algorithmic design and AI, our impact lies in the human care embedded in our community management methodology, focusing on fostering online conversations that are richer and healthier for people.
B Corps are companies that sign up to high standards of environmental and social responsibility. The certification process involves a rigorous audit of business operations and policies across multiple areas. Businesses that meet the required standard are awarded the certification. Globally, there are just 9,000 B Corps, with around 2,500 of those being in the UK.
Robbie and Vincent, our co-founders, always wanted to create a different type of business. One that worked for the benefit of stakeholders, not shareholders. The B Corp movement was a great fit.
The B Impact Assessment is scored out of 200, with 80 points required to certify. The average business has a score of around 50. When Standing on Giants was first certified in 2020, our score was 81.7. In 2024, we were thrilled to re-certify with an improved score of 94.3. The B Corp process is a great way for us to continually improve our impact for our clients, employees, and wider stakeholders.
When we became a B Corp, we asked ourselves, what was the best way for us to contribute to the B Corp community? The answer, unsurprisingly, was community building! We’ve facilitated over 1000 new connections at our famous ‘B Corp Speed Dating’ events, and featured 40 B Corps on our podcast ‘A Little Bit Radical’.
